Garbage disposal is vital for the health of any society. In the City of San Fernando, recently I attended a meeting at the City Hall to discuss plans, ideas and suggestions to improve this problem particularly on High Street in the City. The meeting was coordinated by the Naparima Girls' Young Leaders Volunteerism Project 2001. The plan is to educate the public of the importance of recycling refuse and to separate the refuse into categories so it would be easier for the management of pick-up services of refuse in the City. Carib Glassworks have agreed to donate bins at various venues on High Street that are vagrant or mentally-disturbed-person-proof. The Solid Waste Company informed persons that they will be willing to pass more regularly if citizens assist in putting the refuse the way they need it to be packaged. All paper products such as computer paper, hard white paper, white ledger paper, coloured paper, gloss paper, sultan Kraft paper and cardboard must be disposed together only in their respective areas. Refuse such as glass, bottles, tins, plastics or other non-paper products must be disposed together. Citizens, PLEASE HELP, promote and advertise this initiative. We complain too much that the City is too dirty, unpleasant and an eye-sore. It is up to the people to do something to clean up our community.
